Summary

"If no one remembers something, does that mean it never happened?"

An island sits off the coast of Japan called Rogetsu Isle.
Since ancient times, the inhabitants there have worshiped the moon as a symbol of one's memories and persona, believing it to be a haven for spirits to visit and to which to return.
Every ten years, when the shadow of the moon is at its fullest... the Rogetsu Kagura is enacted.

Rogetsu Kagura: A ritual held on Rogetsu Isle to promote communication between the living and the dead, and used as a means of remembering the dearly departed. Traditionally, the ceremony remained a closely guarded secret, but it has turned into a popular tourist attraction in recent times.

A group of maidens play musical instruments...
as they are encircled by masked figures...
Under the glow of moonlight, a lone masked damsel dances as if possessed...
Her movements quicken along with the melody of the music...

The dancer at the center of the Rogetsu Kagura is called the Vessel, while the maidens playing instruments around her are called the Organs.

In the midst of the ritual, five girls were kidnapped.
Their names are Ruka Minazuki, Misaki Aso, Madoka Tsukimori, Tomoe Nanamura, and Marie Shinomiya.
The girls were later rescued from the basement of Haibara Infirmary, but they had no recollection of the events leading up to their abduction.

Haibara Infirmary: An old hospital on the island that existed long before Rogetsu Hall was built. Residents of the isle refer to Rogetsu Hall as the "new building" and Haibara Infirmary as the "old building."

Ten years passed.
Tomoe Nanamura and Marie Shinomiya...
Two of the kidnapped girls were found dead...
with both of their hands cradling their distraught faces...
as if in a desperate attempt to unsee some ghastly sight.
Their deaths spark three other journeys to Rogetsu Isle.

"Go back to...Rogetsu Isle..."

An unsettling question plagued Misaki Aso.
Who was the girl in black that lingered within the fragments of her memory?
And how did she know her?
In her search for answers, Misaki finds herself drawn to Rogetsu Isle.
Her friend Madoka Tsukimori, who accompanies her,
fears that Misaki's fixation with uncovering her past
will lead her further and further away from her.

"I just want to find out what happened to us that day..."

Ruka Minazuki has no memory of her childhood.
No recollection of the home she grew up in or even her father's face.
But when she plays the piano...
the melody of the Rogetsu Kagura burns vividly in her mind.
What happened on that day they were abducted ten years ago?
Following after her friends, Misaki Aso and Madoka Tsukimori,
Ruka steps foot on Rogetsu Isle once more...
to find what lies at the end of her lost memories...

"Please bring her back safely..."

Detective Choshiro Kirishima stirs awake and finds himself on Rogetsu Isle.
He faintly remembers Sayaka Minazuki asking him
to rescue her daughter, Ruka.
As he investigates the island, he discovers pieces of information that
pique his curiosity―Haibara Infirmary, the records on Moonlight Syndrome, and the Rogetsu Kagura itself.
It becomes blindingly clear that Rogetsu Isle is connected in some way to the serial killer Yo Haibara.
