"DYNASTY WARRIORS 5" allows fans to enjoy the game to the fullest through several different modes. In Legend Mode, players can enjoy a total of 18 new stages that include everything from famous episodes from the Three Kingdoms story to even fictional accounts; in Destiny Mode, players start off as a low-ranked Private and rise up in ranks to become the commander of an entire army; and in Xtreme Mode, players test their limited by battling through automatically generated short stages. Additionally, two new courses are added to "Challenge Mode," where players compete in rankings.
